Task 2

English Profile is a project or research programme registered with the Council of Europe. The goal has been designed to provide a set of reference level descriptions for English linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR), these will provide specific criteria for describing what a learner knows at a particular level of English. For example, by providing descriptions of the grammar, vocabulary and functions necessary to master language levels. In other words, the Common European Framework is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign language.

The six levels that we saw in classes were:

A Basic User: A1 Breakthrough - A2 Waystage
B Independent User: B1 Threshold - B2 Vantage
C Proficient User: C1 Effective Operational Proficiency - C2 Mastery

I think the English Profile should be adopted in Chile in order to improve teaching and learning in schools and to enable teachers to describe and report students achievement in the language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in different tasks and activities across these levels. As an English teacher we can confirm what learners can or cannot do at each level and by using it made us more aware of specific aspect of English development. At the same time, I think the Common European Framework should be implemented in Chile because it could be a key reference document and valuable tool in education to help teachers to plan and program for students learning.
